I wanted to center the press kit around Roku City, and here is where I encountered my first road block: I couldn’t find an image of Roku City that was high quality enough to do it justice. My solution: Recreating it in Illustrator.

This process was Tedious, but the end result was a high-quality Roku City I could use in the building of the Press Kit.

The next challenge came with building the press kit itself. Taking inspiration from retro box tvs, I wanted the press kit to have a sleeve resembling a tv, with an insert of Roku City that pulls out and opens up to reveal the product.

Because of the specific nature of the structure, I learned a 3-D modeling program and built the base. I then took pictures of the structure in various positions before applying the design on top of it in Photoshop. Finally, I added lighting and shadow effects to ground the project and created GIFs to showcase the interactive aspects of the piece.

With the Press Kit built, the next step was designing secondary merch to go with it. Having learned 3-D modeling, I took the opportunity to build a remote holder based around the Roku Robot that can be seen crashing through the city.

Finally, I created a shirt and totebag with a focus on the Roku Robot, drawing inspiration from old hand-drawn movie posters. In the designs, I imagined an old
Sci-Fy movie where a mysterious robot crashes to earth, reaping havoc, all while wielding a Roku Remote.
